Tears, Joy, and Listening

Quotes and Notes #107, February 18,

“If I can see pain in your eyes then share with me your tears. If I can see joy in your eyes then share with me your smile.”–Santosh Kalwar

When someone shares their tears with you, listen quietly, listen totally without trying to think of a reply. Listening is the best therapy that you have to share with your friend or with yourself.

When someone shares their smile with you, join in their feelings of joy.  When they laugh, laugh with them and slap your knee. Go out into the world and share the joy.

My brother told me of meeting Uncle Emile who was a deaf mute. When Uncle Emile thought something was funny, he would get a look of glee on his face with his mouth silently open as he rocked back in his chair and slapped his knee. I will carry that picture in my mind today.

Everything is going to be all right.
