Quotes and Notes #137, March 20
“If you so choose, even the unexpected setbacks can bring new and positive possibilities. If you so choose, you can find value and fulfillment in every circumstance.”–Ralph Marston
It happens to all of us periodically—everything rolls on as it should and then, all of a sudden, things are not as they should be. A “fix” is due and a change is called for. It’s time for one of my favorite poems,
“When in trouble, when in doubt,
Run in circles, scream and shout.”
Or you can quietly examine the situation and come up with possible alternatives that may serve to make things even better than they were before the setback.
Several years ago, a client and I were trying to figure out how to build a retaining wall for a back yard hill. No matter what we did, the result would be ugly—and expensive.
We looked and studied. Finally, I smiled and said, “let’s turn a liability into an asset.”
And we built a beautiful waterfall.
