Quotes and Notes #201, May 29
“Men do change, and change comes like a little wind that ruffles the curtains at dawn, and it comes like the stealthy perfume of wildflowers hidden in the grass.”—John Steinbeck—
“Like wildflowers you must allow yourself to grow in all the places people never thought you would.”—unknown—
For the past 35 years or so, I have had the privilege of helping with the gardening of a house on a mountain. The drive up to the house is a wonderful meandering through a halfway-tamed wooded area.
I noticed a wildflower many years ago that showed up around the end of May and which I came to love and identify with. The flower grows through the rocks and undergrowth, never complaining, never needing any sort of care. I have seen it tolerate drought and flood, heat and cold, and the presence of hungry deer and turkeys. Yesterday I stopped to take a picture of the flower. It is attached to this article. The flower is a lot like me.
