Overcome Your Limitations…

Quotes and Notes #205, June 3

“Be of good cheer. Do not think of today’s failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost.”—Helen Keller—

I naturally think a lot about having lost my voice. This week my voice prosthesis wore out and I went to Emory to get a new one. It is a simple and painless procedure but it is a large part of overcoming my (to me) major infirmity.

On the way home I started thinking about overcoming things. I thought of a childhood friend Doug, who dealt with a withered hand from polio and learned to play baseball rather well. Then I thought about the moving visit that Dekie and I made to the Helen Keller home in Tuscumbia, Alabama. After that visit, and after learning about her life, I have gained an insight that asks, “Wow, if Helen Keller did what she did, what in the world do I have to complain about?”

Grin big today, because…
Everything is going to be all right.
John P. Schulz—“Sweetie Drives on Chemo Days.”
