Quotes and Notes #253, July 14
“You can’t steal a gift. Bird gave the world his music, and if you can hear it you can have it.”—Dizzy Gillespie—
And the birds gave us another gift. For years, we would look at the weeds under the bird feeders. We would pull the weeds and talk about how messy the birds were.
This year we decided that we would allow the weeds to grow. This year we found out that the birds are gardeners and that they were trying to plant a garden for us in return for the delectable seeds. This year, we enjoyed the sunflowers. This year, we understood. As Archie McNalley always said, “One never knows, do one?”
Today, toss out the seeds of a smile and watch them grow and bloom.
Everything is going to be all right

Lovely. Our yard was greener way before any of the other folks’ this year. I pointed this out to the Fella with pride. He looked at me, kindly but firmly, and said, “Um, well yeah, because they’re weeds.” Sure enough, I guess by definition that’s what they were. But there were the tiniest little flowers dotting our yard. I refused to let anyone put out weedkiller. It’s all good. And it’s never that serious. (So mean to be living back out off the dirt roads…..) Thanks for this story.
