Quotes and Notes #349, October 19
“Two roads diverged in a wood and I
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”—Robert Frost—
It’s all right with me if you want to think from a different category, but is it all right with you?
Do you feel a bit of trepidation when your thoughts or your life veers off in a sort of different direction? Be bold and follow where your mind leads you—that’s how you learn.
In another poem, Robert Frost says,
“The woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep.”
A lot of those promises should be ones that you made to yourself.
To share a smile should be one of those promises.
Everything is going to be all right

The “Woods, lovely, dark and deep” always reminds me of the mythological aspects of a fairy tale, where danger lurks. Frost contrasts the lovely woods with the idea that there is darkness and depth there too. We humans seem to prefer the open spaces of the meadow. There seems something, quieting, refreshing in the dark, deep woods, yet, a bit threatening at times. I like this poem very much. Yet, it does give one pause to think…will be be about in the world, doing, or will we dare to go into the woods, dark and deep for resting and pondering? Or will we keep to the business of doing our duty, keeping those promises and walking those miles?

It keeps taking me back to my favorite question, “I wonder what would happen if…”
