The Difference Between Dreams and Plans

Quotes and Notes #172, April 25

“In art and dream may you proceed with abandon. In life may you proceed with balance and stealth.”—Patti Smith—

Find Joy in life. Throw up your arms, free your mind and laugh into the sky. If the sky is stormy, laugh louder.

For today, and each day as it comes, take the time to make some precise plans and then carefully sneak up on them, grab them, and make them happen.

And share a smile.

Everything is going to be all right.

Simplicity

Quotes and Notes #128, March 11

“Simplicity is the final achievement. After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art.”–Frederic Chopin

We may take this thought into other parts of our endeavors. After trying many convoluted ways to solve a problem, look for the simplest because that will work best. This is not to say that one should look for the easiest way out, but for the simplest.

My wife has a rule about “stuff” in the house—“When something comes in, something must go out.” This policy serves to simplify and to reduce clutter. It also works in your mind as you sort through daily thoughts and considerations. Try it.

The simplest step toward being happy is to share a smile.

Everything is going to be all right.
