Beauty is Where You Find It…

Quotes and Notes #233, July 3

“Life has loveliness to sell,
All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fire that sways and sings,
And children’s faces looking up,
Holding wonder like a cup.”
—Sara Teasdale—

I love it when it doesn’t rain. Of course, I also love it when it does rain. One time I went to the beach for sun and fun. There was a majestic storm that lasted the entire week. I have forgotten other trips to the sea but I will never forget the hours I spent loving the rain, the wind, and the giant waves.

Looking for Pretty

Quotes and Notes #221, June 19

“The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives.”—Albert Einstein—

A young child will notice new things often, reaching out to touch and feel while seeing with wonder. As we age, we notice the new less often, but it is still there. We know the beauty of a bee, but we also know the truth of its sting.

The old saying, “take time to smell the roses” becomes more and more important in our busy and complicated lives.

The Strength to Overcome Adversity

Quotes and Notes #207, June 4,

“One who gains strength by overcoming obstacles possesses the only strength which can overcome adversity.”—Albert Schweitzer—

I’m starting to notice a common thread developing in some of the articles in the quote project.

    • One gains strength by overcoming obstacles
    • Through practice, one develops the strength to overcome adversity.
    • Our levels of optimism are raised by the practice of optimism.
    • Our sense of self-confidence is enhanced through the practice of projecting self-confidence.
    • Happiness makes us smile. Smiling increases our feelings of happiness.
    • Sharing a smile will make both you and the recipient feel good.

Everything is going to be all right.

Find Your Inner Security…

Quotes and Notes #200, May 28

“Beauty is a radiance that originates from within and comes from inner security and strong character.”—Jane Seymour—

Believe in yourself. Believe in your abilities. This is where you will find your inner security. Your security will show in your demeanor and will be noticed widely. You are special.

Don’t Forget the Beauty…

Quotes and Notes #197, May 25

“Beauty exists not in what is seen and remembered, but in what is felt and never forgotten.”—Johnathan Jena—

“How did that make you feel?” He asked.
He was an old soldier. I was young.
I thought about it and said, “It made me feel like someone really cared about me and wanted to give me something to remember.”

“That’s good.” He replied. “That’s what I meant for it to do.”
He has been gone for years, now. But I haven’t forgotten.

And he always had a bright smile for me. I will never forget that

As a Child Sees Beauty

Quotes and Notes #135, March 18
”The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives.”–Albert Einstein

One of my favorite pictures from long ago is of my son at the age of four in which he is looking at a fishing worm as it crawls across his hand. I had taken him fishing at a beautiful mountain lake. With the mountains, clouds, and a forest all around him he found beauty in a slimy brown earthworm.

It’s not as much isolating the parts of beauty around us as it is accepting them with the grace and wonder of a child. Look for beauty today in places where you never found it before. It’s there. I guarantee it.

Manure

Quotes and Notes, January 12, 2015

“What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well.”–Antoine de Saint-Exupery

The child looked at the pile of manure and said, “Oh, Boy, there’s a pony around here somewhere.” Look around to find the beauty. Laugh to find happiness. Share a smile.

Everything is going to be all right.
