Find Happiness One Step At A Time…

Quotes and Notes #295, August 26

walking the steps over and over...

walking the steps over and over…

“As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind.  To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.”—Henry David Thoreau—

Optimism, attitude, caring, and happiness are not qualities that just happen to us, they take practice—lots of practice. Remember two things,
We can choose our own attitude.
Optimism becomes better with practice.

You can light the path with a bright smile
Everything is going to be all right.

Before Looking Down

Quotes and Notes #167, April 20

“Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone…just remember that all of the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.”—F. Scott Fitzgerald—

It is easy to look down on someone who is maybe not quite as intelligent as you are or who is less fortunate in one way or another. It is easy to think of someone as less intelligent when, in fact, they are less educated.

It is easy to look the other way when we see someone with a physical disability or when it is obvious that someone needs sustenance, or shelter, or clothing. It is easy to silently dwell on our own problems while someone is telling us of theirs.

But with a bit of practice, we can learn to view these limitations in others with feeling, with caring, or with understanding.

And it all starts with sharing a smile

And realizing that Everything is going to be all right

ice cream

Quotes and Notes #131, March 14

“Ice Cream is the perfect buffer, because you can do things in a somewhat lighthearted way. Plus, people have an emotional response to ice cream; it’s more than just food. So I think when you combine caring and eating wonderful food, it’s a very powerful combination.”–Jerry Greenfield

A lady once said to me, “Ice cream is good for you. It is 80% air and everyone knows how good air is for the body.” If we add “sharing and laughing” to the above quote, it gives us even more of a reason to enjoy sharing good things with others. Others enjoy it, we enjoy it—everybody wins.

And don’t forget to share a smile

Everything is going to be all right.

Caring and Giving

Quotes and Notes #130, March 13

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”–Leo Buscaglia

Yesterday at the caregiver’s luncheon, I was talking with a nice man who told me that he makes ornate baby cradles. More than that, he makes cradles to give to random people who are having their first child. He told me that he just gave away number 21 and was starting another, then he showed me a picture of the beautiful work—it was priceless.

The back story was that his wife had died after a long spell with Alzheimer’s and the cradle making was part of his self-administered therapy.

I said, “I’ll bet those people really love the cradles.” He smiled and replied, “They sure do.”

I said, “I’ll bet giving those cradles away makes you feel pretty good.” He replied, “That’s the point of it, isn’t it?”

This story is my gift to you, now go out and pass it on.

Share a smile

Everything is going to be all right.
