You’re on your own, and you know what you know.
And you are the one who’ll decide where to go.”

Digging in Rocky Ground…

Quotes and Notes #285, August 16

It requires patience and the proper tools to plant in rocky ground

It requires patience and the proper tools to plant in rocky ground

“The man who thinks he can and the man who thinks he can’t are both right. Which one are you?”—Henry Ford—

Sometimes things are not easy. Sometimes the ground is hard and rocky but with the proper tools we can chip away at it until we have a hole big enough to plant a nice plant. With the proper hole, we can add soil amendments and fertilizer. The plant will grow well and give us pleasure.

“It will never rain roses: when we want to have more roses, we must plant more roses.”—George Eliot—

Sometimes we have great worries on our minds. We can chip away at them, also, until they are take a form that we can better handle.

What’s holding you back?

Quotes and Notes #256, July 18

Bloom and reach for the light

Bloom and reach for the light

“And even if you were in some prison, the walls of which let none of the sounds of the world come to your senses—would you not then still have your childhood, that precious, kingly possession, that treasure-house of memories?—Rainer Maria Rilke—

The climbing vine will find a way. It can, in its way, move large boulders and find passages through tiny cracks in massive walls.

We have light and we have the determination given to us by the optimism of childhood to drive us in our constant reach for the light of happiness.

You can pack up your attitude and carry it with you anywhere. Polish it up and make sure that it is a good one.

Make a Dress

Quotes and Notes #118, March 1

“It’s just that in the Deep South, women learn at a young age that when the world is falling apart around you, it’s time to take down the drapes and make a new dress.”–Karen Marie Moning, “Faefever

To see something through to the end, whether it is solving a problem, making it through a hardship, or reaching for a difficult goal requires patience, thought, creativity, and determination.

  • Don’t be in a hurry, if you stick with it, it will happen.
  • Think about the problem and consider the steps that must be taken.
  • Look at your options and see if you can find an easier, more effective, or better way to accomplish your goals.
  • Don’t give up. If it frustrates you from one direction, go at it from a different direction.

And always remember to share a smile

New Beginnings

Quotes and Notes #115, February 26

“There are as many worlds as there are kinds of days, and as an opal changes its colors and its fire to match the nature of a day, so do I.”–John Steinbeck

Each day, as it dawns, offers an opportunity for new beginnings. We can study our future directions and fine tune them like an old time mechanic would adjust a carburetor, with his hands lovingly holding and gently turning his screwdriver as he listens to the sound of the motor. We can adjust our feelings and our actions to match the day or to align with our perceived future needs. Self confidence and determination will help you to prevail in these endeavors.  A smile on your face will light a candle in your eyes.
