Scattered Along Life’s Pathway

Quotes and Notes #232, July 2

“The sun—the bright sun, that brings back, not light alone, but new life, and hope, and freshness to man—burst upon the crowded city in clear and radiant glory. Through costly-coloured glass and paper-mended window, through cathedral dome and rotten crevice, it shed its equal ray.”—Charles Dickens, “Oliver Twist—

That, my friends, is a beautiful piece of writing. The sun shines down equally for each of us. Joseph Addison gave us another insight way back in the early 18th century:

“What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure; but scattered along life’s pathway, the good they do is inconceivable.”—Joseph Addison

So take heed, scatter some smiles along the pathway

Sunshine, Smiles, and Flowers

Quotes and Notes #141, March 25

“What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but good trifles, to be sure; but scattered along life’s pathway, the good they do is inconceivable.”–Joseph Addison

I had a friend named Leon. I always looked forward to seeing him because he always shared a smile with me. I knew that he had endured a lot of hardships and that he had lost his wife to cancer, but he always had a smile for me. Leon died a few years ago.

Leon lives on in my mind, though. I can still picture him walking down 4th Avenue with his shoulders back and a big smile on his face.

I hope that I will be remembered like that—What a legacy.
