We could never learn to be brave and patient, if there were only joy in the world.”—Helen Keller—

We must first till the ground and then plant the seeds. We must watch the results of our endeavors through the ravages of drought, disease, storm, flood, and time before we attain the ultimate goals.

In a world in which “instant gratification” seems to be too slow, it is best to look to patience for true goodness and value. The harvest will come

Do I Go Through That Wall or Around It?

Quotes and Notes #160, April 13

”If you’re trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”–Michael Jordan –

My younger brother, Billy, was born with Down syndrome many years before there were any programs, agencies, or educational opportunities for children with the same or similar disabilities.

Billy learned to take it in stride. My parents were a big help in assisting his development as he grew up but Billy ran into brick walls at every turn. He became a master at scaling these walls or working his way around them. He never met a stranger. When you were around him he treated you as one of the most special people in the world. Billy shared a smile everywhere he went.

Now, I have a brick wall of my own to climb. I’ve decided that I am not going to go through it, but to go around. That will be more fun. You know, if Billy can get around that wall, I feel sure that I can. All it takes is perseverance. You can do it too. Come up with a plan and go for it.

And don’t forget to share a smile.
