To Feel Good–Let Someone Know That They Are Special

cookies

“If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded.”—Maya Angelou—

Keeping this in mind today, take the time to make somebody else feel good. Give them a non-material gift. Make somebody smile. Make somebody happy about something.

It’s easy to make someone feel special with a pat on the back and a small compliment—and it’s free.

What Can Be Done About It?

Try again

When the project fails, ask whether it was worth it or not and if the answer is “yes”–Try again.

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.”
Winston Churchill

This is an example of applied optimism. Look for the bright side. Work toward a successful completion of your project. Figure out how to solve or correct your problem. Examine whatever is making you unhappy and deal with it.
And if you do all of that and fail? Well, then, summon up the courage to start all over again and go after it.

And whatever you do–Keep on smiling…

Digging in Rocky Ground…

Quotes and Notes #285, August 16

It requires patience and the proper tools to plant in rocky ground

It requires patience and the proper tools to plant in rocky ground

“The man who thinks he can and the man who thinks he can’t are both right. Which one are you?”—Henry Ford—

Sometimes things are not easy. Sometimes the ground is hard and rocky but with the proper tools we can chip away at it until we have a hole big enough to plant a nice plant. With the proper hole, we can add soil amendments and fertilizer. The plant will grow well and give us pleasure.

“It will never rain roses: when we want to have more roses, we must plant more roses.”—George Eliot—

Sometimes we have great worries on our minds. We can chip away at them, also, until they are take a form that we can better handle.

Change Your Plans but Refine Your Goals

Quotes and Notes #176, April 30

“Failed plans should not be interpreted as a failed vision. Visions don’t change, they are only refined. Plans rarely stay the same and are scrapped or adjusted as needed. Be stubborn about the vision, but flexible with your plan.”—John C. Maxwell—

My wise brother, Tom Schulz, once said, “I like to set my goals at the end of the day. That way I reach a 100% success rate.” I don’t think that he thinks I listen, but I often do.

We must have the ability to change our plans as they develop. When a part of the plan goes wrong, analyze the fault and quickly change the plan to what works. At the same time, we must keep sight of the overall goal but as the plans teach us, we may wish to refine the parameters of the goal. That’s good, too.

To refine the plan and the goal with grace, follow this advice:

“Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it.”—Lao Tzu—

Set a goal to make people smile today.

Karma is a Law of Nature

Quotes and Notes #151, April 4

“Plant seeds of happiness, hope, success and love, it will all come back to you in abundance.  This is the law of nature.”–Steve Maraboli

This is where the concept of karma comes from. And we all know the verse from The Bible, “As ye sow, so shall ye reap.”

When you share the good things, the good things, in turn, give you a good feeling of happiness and contentment.

A New Chance Every Day

Quotes and Notes #101, February 11

“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: It goes on.”–Robert Frost

Every day somebody gets another chance to get it right—or keep it right. That person may as well be you. Concentrate today on the little things that please you. Write a poem in your head and sing it to yourself. Share a pleasantry with the lady at the check-out counter who is also dealing with her feelings.

Success or value?

Quotes and Notes #91, January 31

“Try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value.”–Albert Einstein

A friend and I spoke briefly yesterday about the meaning of success. Is it possible to be poor and be successful? How about being wealthy and a failure? We all go through instances of failure and success in our endeavors. The main judgment of success, though, is not what we have but who we are. This afternoon, enjoy your own personal sunset.
