Clouds in My Life

Quotes and Notes #113, February 24

"There is a different sunset every day"--Bill Land

“There is a different sunset every day”–Bill Land

“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or to usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.”–Rabindranath Tagore, “Stray Birds”

Much of the time, when things become problematic, we take a bit of pleasure and satisfaction in dealing with the problems and finding closure. The true optimist looks for the good side of things even though the good side may be a bit obscure.

So enjoy the sunset today. If there’s not much of a sunset today or tomorrow, there will be one sooner or later. Someone once asked of my grandmother, “Ms. Tommie, do you think it will rain?” She gave them her sternest look and said, “It always has.” Share a smile.

Quotes and Notes #98, February 7

“A lady much older and wiser than I am said, ‘No two sunsets are ever alike.’ I’m still looking at them to make sure she was right.”–Bill Land

Enjoying sunsets is a wonderful way to end the day. To look at them every day and check to see if the older, wiser lady was right is not about finding two sunsets alike, it is about looking at them and enjoying them. In the same light, all of your days on the earth are different. Enjoy them for what they are.

My friend Nelson told me that he enjoys the sunrise from his bedroom window every day. That’s not a bad way to start a day.  Share a smile—spread the joy.

Everything is going to be all right.

Success or value?

Quotes and Notes #91, January 31

“Try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value.”–Albert Einstein

A friend and I spoke briefly yesterday about the meaning of success. Is it possible to be poor and be successful? How about being wealthy and a failure? We all go through instances of failure and success in our endeavors. The main judgment of success, though, is not what we have but who we are. This afternoon, enjoy your own personal sunset. If the sky is overcast, try again tomorrow. Share a smile

Everything is going to be all right.
